KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- Missouri's "On the Job Training Program is getting help in northeast Missouri. The program gives employers an incentive to hire unemployed or laid-off workers.
If a company hires a worker who qualifies for the program, the company can receive 50 percent reimbursement of that person's salary while they train for the new job.
In order to increase the program's efforts in northeast Missouri, an On the Job Training Program Coordinator has been hired. Their primary focus will be informing businesses and dislocated workers about the program.
"Their main function is going to be just concentrating on OJT. They'll be marketing to employers, they'll be writing contracts, they'll be enrolling jobseekers. They'll be able to cover all areas, of the OJT process because that's all they're going to do," said Lana Vestal, a business representative for the State of Missouri's Division of Workforce Development.
According to Vestal, in order for a job to qualify for the program, it must be a full-time, permanent position that pays at least $10 per hour.
If you think you qualify for the program, you are encouraged to stop by the Missouri Career Center in Kirksville, Mo.
The On the Job Training Program is funded through the Federal Workforce Investment Act.
