JEFFERSON CITY, MO. -- Missouri officials are working to rid the state of feral hogs that have been damaging habitat and crops around the state. The wild animals have been especially troublesome during the current drought.
Missouri Department of Conservation supervisor Debra Burns says the bands of hogs have been found in west-central Missouri. Burns is the wildlife supervisor for the department’s Kansas City Region.
Most of the state’s feral hogs have been released illegally by people who intend to hunt them or charge fees for guiding hunters.
The department is asking people who see feral hogs to contact the agency or one of their local conservation agents.
