KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- UPDATED: 12:00 p.m.

The driver involved in the hit-and-run has now been identified. Kirksville police told KTVO the driver was Anthony Richardson, 24, of Kirksville. He was cited for leaving the scene of an accident, driving without a valid license, having no insurance and careless and imprudent driving.

Kirksville police were trying to unravel what started out as a late-night hit-and-run accident that is until the driver returned to the scene of the crime.

Officers said it happened just before 10 p.m. Tuesday when the driver slammed into three parked cars sitting along the 500 block of North Elson Street.

Neighbors told KTVO they heard a loud boom followed by the sound of screeching tires. They rushed outside to find pieces of metal scattered down the street and the driver taking off on foot from the scene.

Police said the man hit two parked cars and a small pickup truck before his car was unable to continue any farther.

Officers said a few minutes later the suspect returned to the scene and that’s when he was taken into custody to be given a breathalyzer test.

Investigators aren’t releasing the man’s name at this time, but do say he will likely be cited for a long list of traffic violations.

No one was injured in the incident.
