OTTUMWA, IOWA -- 37-year-old Alex Mabe, who is accused of robbing the South Ottumwa Savings Bank a couple of weeks ago, had his bond review Monday morning at the Wapello County Courthouse.
Due to Mabe’s criminal history, the state called for the bond review and requested his bond be raised to $25,000 cash only.
Mabe was represented by State Public Defender Alan Cooke who told the judge that because his client is homeless and has no job, the bond amount makes no difference.
However, Judge Llyod Keith approved the state’s request.
Judge Keith told KTVO that the defendant is a threat to society and that is why he approved it.
Mabe told the state prosecutor that he could make the bond $50 billion and it wouldn’t make a difference.
Mabe is charged with second-degree robbery, a class C felony. He is currently being held in the Wapello County Jail.
