OTTUMWA, IOWA -- The Ottumwa YMCA will be closed this week and reopened next Monday; this is all part of the YMCA’s yearly maintenance week.

A total scrub down of the facility will take place, everything from the group fitness room to the pool.

YMCA staff said this is to ensure its members have the best experience possible.

“We are in the pool today and we don't even have to tread water because that's one of our projects that we have going on. We actually have the pool drained today so that we can do some tile repairing and we're also putting in a safety line down at the five-foot level so that people have a safer swim here at the YMCA,” said Tom Sisler, YMCA’s Executive Director.

Sisler said anyone is welcome to volunteer this week with cleaning and maintenance. He said people can simply show up at the YMCA anytime between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. and lunch will be provided.

The YMCA will reopen next Monday at its regular hours.
