KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- If you drove near the Kirksville schools campus Monday, you probably had to slow down for a lot of street construction.

Crews are busy paving and overlaying on Normal Street and Cottage Grove.

After years of citizen complaints about the bad condition of the streets, they were finally scheduled for an upgrade thanks to funding from the Kirksville's Transportation Sales Tax.

City officials want parents and students to know this work won't be affecting traffic when school starts next week.

"I don't see any concern right now," said Kirksville City Engineer Edward Ieans. "We've been having good weather these past few weeks. We anticipate the contractor will have everything done on Normal and La Harpe Streets. Once road improvements are completed by Cottage Grove and Normal, road crews will be working on paving La Harpe Street."

Ieans hopes they will begin that project on Wednesday.
