KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- To conclude the Battle of Kirksville Commemoration Weekend, Kirksville Parks and Rec, the Truman State University Theater Department, and Curtain Call Theatre Company performed the Tom Taylor Comedy Classic, 'Our American Cousin', with a special adaptation by Lowell Swortzell.

The show was performed in fron of a packed house at the James G. Severns Theater.  The admission was free.

'Our American Cousin' is the play President Abraham Lincoln was watching at the Ford's theatre in Washington DC when he was assassinated on April 14, 1865.

Sunday's two hour performance included the actual play as well as the history of Lincoln's assassination.

"The author of this play took the actual, original play, and put in little monologues that kind of set out the assassination, and we actually have a whole scene that involves the assassination," said Heather Darrah, Director and Kirksville Parks and Rec Recreation Specialist.

The 16 member cast began rehearsing for the play in May.
