KIRKSVILLE, MO -- Parents around the Heartland have been getting their kids ready to go back to school, and on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, they have been saving a lot of cash as well, being that they are taking advantage of the sales tax holiday.
In Missouri, shoppers did not have to pay the 4.2% sales tax on items such as computers, school supplies and clothing. In Kirksville, shoppers saved 7.85% on qualifying purchases.
Shoppers KTVO spoke with say that they would most likely be spending over $100 this year on clothes, just for school.
“It is great. It is saving me money. I feel like I can buy more than what I normally would because I do not have to pay the taxes,” said shopper Robbi Shedron.
“It is one of the two big shopping events for our store really because next to Black Friday and Thanksgiving and the Christmas holiday season, back to school is the time when a lot of our customers are shopping and need to get out and take care of a lot of their shopping needs,” said Janet Gremaud of JCPenney.
