When KTVO arrived on the scene around 10 a.m. the trailer portion of the semi was completely bent in the middle.

Deputy Sheriff Don Phillips with the Wapello County Sheriff’s Office explained to KTVO what happened.

“This morning at 4:51 a.m. we had a report of a semi that rolled onto its side and blocked both lanes of traffic on the westbound side of U.S. 34. The driver was transported to Ottumwa Regional Health Center and got checked out; I do not know the extent of his injuries. The Wapello County Sheriff’s Office responded, along with the Wapello County Rural Fire Department and Agency Fire and Rescue. They both assisted with traffic control,” Deputy Phillips said.

The Iowa Department of Transportation ended up opening one lane of traffic once the semi was securely right side up. The trailer was hauled away Friday afternoon. Both lanes of traffic were opened shortly after the semi was removed.
