KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- Kirksville Regional Airport passed its annual inspection with flying colors.

In fact, the airport received a Medal of Excellence award from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for having zero discrepancies.

An FAA inspector was at the airport on Monday and Tuesday.

Airport Director David Hall told KTVO this is the first time in seven years that Kirksville Regional has received a perfect rating on its yearly inspection.

He said much of the first day of the evaluation is spent outdoors at the airport.

"The first portion is typically an airfield inspection, and they're looking at signage and precision markings on the runways and taxiways, windsocks and all of those kind of things, and then we'll move into the night inspection with all the lighting and what have you," said Hall.

Day two of the inspection is mostly spent on documentation and going over training records and things of that nature.

Hall said he is very pleased and proud of the perfect rating because the airport staff works hard to prepare for it each year.
