MILAN, MO. -- It's fair season here in the Heartland, and one has been going on this week and will be ending this weekend.

KTVO was in Milan Thursday during the Sullivan County Fair being held at the American Legion Field.

The fair started off Tuesday night with the Fair Queen Pageant.

FFA and 4-H students from Milan, Green City, and Newtown-Harris have been exhibiting their projects since Wednesday.

A Goat and Sheep Shows were held on Thursday, and a Small Animal Show was held Friday morning.

Fair board members say this event gives students a chance to share their projects outside the classroom.

"It takes a lot of responsibility and commitment. They learn a lot of life lessons from taking animals and raising them. They have to make a lot of management decisions. It's a lot of life skills the kids get from this experience. The fair is a great way to show off everything they've learned and accomplished throughout the year," said Fair Board Member Stephanie Oaks.

Fair board members say the best part of the fair is seeing all the kids' projects.

"They've taken these animals and raised them or made exhibits. They've put a lot of hard work and effort into it. It's really neat to see the kids be able to show it off to everybody and take pride in what they've accomplished," Oaks said.

The fair continues tonight with the Swine Show and concludes Saturday with the Beef Show at 8 a.m. and the Super Farmer Contest at 3 p.m.

Many students will be showing their animals once again at next week's NEMO Fair in Kirksville.
