Jack McCartney sweet corn booth in Kirksville
KIRKSVILLE, MO -- For Jack McCartney and his sweet corn business, this is the first time in more than 20 years he's been able to sell before the 4th of July holiday.
The sole reason for that has to do with the warm weather we've seen not only now, but during the spring season as well.
"We got it planted at a decent time. It got planted at the 20th or 21st of April," he said. "We had some good conditions. It came up quick. Corn loves heat to a certain degree.
And unfortunately, the high temperatures we've had the last few days is hard on the corn.
McCartney says, no hotter than 85 degrees is a good temperature that allows for the corn to mature properly.
