KIKRSVILLE, MO -- Even though most firework shows are now over with. Some of the celebrations are likely to continue into the weekend. And with all of the sounds of fireworks and added people around, this could be having an impact on your animal.

If your animal does become burned by a firework, it is recommended that you don’t put any type of cream, ointment, or butter on it. These can introduce bacteria into your animal.

If the burn is mild, it is recommended that you cool the area as soon as possible with cool water.

Never use ice as it increases the chance of hypothermia and shock.

And if your pet seems to be showing stress from the loud sounds of fireworks or large crowds, take time to relax and play with your pets. By doing this you can make your pets feel like the atmosphere is normal.

Most importantly, when you are in doubt about your pet’s safety, you should contact your family veterinarian as soon as possible and see whether or not additional medical treatment is necessary.
