FAIRFIELD, IOWA -- An impromptu meeting was held Monday afternoon between the Jefferson County Area Ambulance owners, crew and county supervisors.

Crew members expressed that many are actively looking for new jobs if things don’t change within the company.

“An increase in pay, benefits that we have all lost, and recently subject to a pay cut and the environment of the service, as it needs to change,” said Matt Weaver, Jefferson County Ambulance crew member.

Crew members said that if Jefferson County Ambulance co-owner Ray Rex stepped down, then they would most likely stay onboard as full-time crew.

“I've talked to some of the people that work for the ambulance and they said they have a hard time working for one of the owners,” said Stephen Burgmeier, Jefferson County Supervisor.

The ambulance service will form in a letter of intent how they’re going to move forward for the next 90 days and the supervisors will look over it.

“Yes that’s what he (Rex) said. He would back out, not out of ownership, but out of actively involved in the corporation,” said Burgmeier.

Rex declined an interview with KTVO after the meeting.
