Major Sandra K. Karsten was promoted within the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
JEFFERSON CITY, MO -- Major Sandra Karsten, Commander of the Administrative Services Bureau of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, has been promoted to the Commander of Technical Services Bureau with General Headquarters in Jefferson City.
Karsten will now oversee the criminal justice information services division, the information and communications technology division, the research and development division, and the traffic records division.
Karsten began her career when she was appointed to the state patrol in September 1985.
After graduating from the patrol’s academy she was assigned to Callaway County. Eventually Karsten was promoted to corporal and then to sergeant in 1994 and placed in charge of Audrain County. In December 1996, Karsten transferred to the field operations bureau.
In September 1997, Karsten was promoted to captain and remained assigned to the general headquarters in the field operations bureau. Then Karsten was named director of the human resources division. Karsten was promoted to major in 2011 and designated commander of the administrative services bureau.
Karsten is a graduate of Putnam County High School in Unionville. She earned her bachelor’s of science degree in criminal justice from Northeast Missouri State University (now Truman Sate University) in Kirksville. In 2003 she earned a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Missouri.
Karsten and her husband, Tim, have two sons, John and Paul.
