KIRKSVILLE, MO -- The North Missouri Drug Task Force plays an important role in reducing drug activity.

The task force has been taking significant budget cuts over the years and has been relying on government stimulus money to function.

“In 2010, the president came out with the stimulus money that gave us a boost and kept us going to date. Currently this year we will be using the last of that stimulus money. So in anticipation of the cuts the governor has asked for approximately $1.5 million to make up for those cuts but when that went to legislation that got cut out of the budget,” said North Missouri Drug Task Force Director Captain Chris Brown.

The cuts come out to 20 percent and without more funding it is possible an officer might have to be cut.

The task force currently only has four officers and covers a 10 county area. Anyone concerned over the cuts is urged to call their local legislator
