OTTUMWA, IOWA -- The Ottumwa Regional Walk-in Clinic officially opened its doors to patients on Monday.

A $250,000 project, the clinic is located in the Quincy Place Plaza across from the mall and offers services seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Staff at the clinic said there was a great need for primary care in the Ottumwa area, and patients were lacking a relationship and an easy way to communicate with their caregivers.

The clinic can treat common colds, a fever, headache or sore throat, without the inconvenience of needing to make an appointment.

"Anything that they would go to a primary care doctor's office for, we could do here, as long as it's not a specific specialty," said Maggie Fuller, director of practice management at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

In just the first two days, the clinic has already seen a high number of patients, with the biggest rush coming in the morning hours.

"We had a great turnout for the very first day, it was a little busy and hectic especially first thing in the morning but we had a constant flow of patients yesterday, so it turned out really really well," Fuller said.

The clinic takes walk-in appointments all day, or you can call 684-2551.
