FAIRFIELD, IOWA -- It’s called the Dutch Oven Cook-Off. And at Jefferson County Park on Saturday, 20 teams prepared their best dishes in hopes of wooing the judges.

It wasn’t just the judges that got to sample the dishes. For $5 a mini-spoon could be purchased and you could walk around and sample the 59 dishes.

This year’s cook-off featured a new category.

“We have a mystery item. We have four categories. This year it’s the mystery item was eggs and the contestants didn't know about it until the cook’s meeting and we presented them with a dozen eggs. And they had to decide how they would fix those dozen eggs. We have nine contestants that went in that. So you don’t have to compete in all the categories. You can decide which categories you want to participate in,” said Gay Chapman, cook-off organizer.

Seven judges had the task of trying all 59 dishes.  They judged on appearance, presentation of the items and of course how the items tasted.
