JEFFERSON CITY, MO. -- Attorney General Chris Koster said 61,219 cell phone numbers have been registered on Missouri's no-call registry since Thursday, the first day the expanded registry was made available.
Missourians can register on the Attorney General's website at ago.mo.gov or by phone at (866) 662-2551.
On June 14, Governor Jay Nixon signed into law House Bill 1549, which enables Missourians to register their cell phone numbers on the no-call list to avoid receiving unwanted telemarketing calls on their cell phones and text messages.
The expanded law covers only cell phones that are primarily used for personal and family use. Cell phones that are used primarily for business are not covered.
The no-call registry is updated quarterly, so everyone who adds their mobile numbers to the list by July 31 will be covered until October 1. Everyone signing up after July 31 and before November 1 will be covered beginning January 1.
Koster said more than 1.8 million Missouri households are on the no-call registry for residential phones.
