MACON, MO -- A special presentation including a check for $25,000 was presented to the Macon County Park project Thursday morning.

The money is being used to resurface the deteriorating road running through the park. The grant was approved by the Macon County Economic Development Board and available through the Landfill Fee Fund.

“We received a $25,000 check today to make improvements to the main road through the park. This county park is a huge economic generator for our county. We have a lot of events here and the road was in very bad shape. So, the economic development put money into it as well as county park board, and the Macon County Road and Bridge Improvement capital fund,” said Macon County Associate Commissioner Jon Dwiggins.

The Macon County Park provides space for a multitude of recreationally activities including rodeos, tractor pulls, demolition derbies, and car shows. The park draws thousands of visitors a year and the new road will provide a better and safer path throughout the park, encouraging greater use of the facilities.
