BLOOMFIELD, IOWA -- At a meeting in Des Moines on Tuesday, the Iowa Department of Transportation released their five-year transportation plan and it did not include Highway 63 being made into a four-lane highway.

The four lanes would have started north of Bloomfield before you reach Fox Creek Bridge and would have ended at Mary Street in Ottumwa.

The head of the Highway 63 South Coalition said the D.O.T. put its focus on repairing the damage done by last year’s massive flooding in Missouri.

“And there are some emergency situations like out in western Iowa that they have to repair the road services.  So we understand that there are more people in dire need than we are but we're still going to keep up,” said Evans.

Evans added that those who use Highway 63 to commute to and from work would have greatly benefited from the four lanes.

“To me, it'd be ok in the summer time. Boy in the wintertime when the roads are iffy, that would be a chore. So hopefully one of these days when- it'll be our turn,” said Evans.

Evans said the coalition will not slow down and that all things come to those that wait patiently.
