DES MOINES, IOWA (AP) -- An attorney for a county prosecutor says his client's suspension based on allegations that he was unfit to work was unwarranted, unprecedented and a process unlikely to be repeated in Iowa.
David Brown represents Appanoose County Attorney Richard Scott, whose law license was temporarily suspended without a hearing by the Iowa Supreme Court one month ago.
The court lifted Scott's suspension Wednesday after a hearingTuesday. The court said it was undisputed that Scott's failure to appear caused some criminal cases to be dismissed but found no evidence that was because of an impairment.
The court said Scott could return to work but would face additional oversight for 90 days.
Brown said Friday his client was simply struggling to handle a high caseload but would "redouble his efforts" going forward.
