OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Seth Techel has entered a not guilty plea to charges he shot his pregnant wife, Lisa Techel.

According to Iowa Online Court records, Techel's attorney, Steve Gardner filed the plea Friday morning.

Techel is facing a First Degree Murder Charge in the death of his wife. He also faces a felony charge of Non-consensual Termination of a Human Pregnancy. Lisa Techel was 17 weeks pregnant when she died from a shotgun slug early on the morning of May 26.

In a press conference held on Thursday, Wapello County Sheriff Don Kirkendall declined to offer a motive in Lisa Techel death.

However, an affidavit filed with the court as part of the arrest warrant strongly suggests that Techel marriage was in trouble, and that Seth Techel told his mistress that everything would be better in a couple of weeks.

In Iowa, a conviction on First Degree Murder carries a mandatory life sentence.

Court records do not indicate that Techel has posted the $750,000 cash only bond and been released.

His next scheduled court appearance is a preliminary hearing set for June 6 at 10 a.m.
