BLOOMFIELD, IOWA -- Davis County Elementary students took advantage of a picture perfect Wednesday morning to get a little exercise.

The students spent the morning participating in the annual Elementary School relays

But as Davis County P.E. teacher Mahala Grim tells KTVO, it’s not your average track meet.

"We have some silly beach relays with floaties, and we will have a water relay where they have to fill a bucket up. A beach ball pass. We also have musical beach towels and Hawaiian tattoos. And then they also have a race on the track,” Grim said.

Grim says she believes getting her students active early in life can help provide a foundation for healthy living that can last a lifetime.

And she is living proof, Grim says she remembers being a participant in the relays when she was a student at Davis County
