OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Saturday was all about getting kids moving and thinking about nutrition at the Ottumwa YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day.

The free event attracted kids of all ages. Activities and games were set up for the kids to play and YMCA staff taught them fun ways to exercise and the importance of eating healthy.

“The ultimate goal of Healthy Kids Day is to just get kids thinking about their health and staying active through the summer. I mean a lot of them you know go to P.E. class during school but in the summer it's great to stay active, whether you're playing a sport, or just coming to the Y or being active at home,” said Courtney Wares, Fitness and Aquatics Coordinator at the YMCA.

The event even attracted local celebrities; Police Chief Jim Clark held storytime for the children and members of the fire department also came.

One of the main attractions of the day was Dizzy the clown. She held a “dizzercize” class in the fitness studio. She got the kids moving their feet while being silly and having fun.
