NEAR DRAKESVILLE, IOWA -- 101 runners and walkers showed up Saturday morning to Lake Wapello State Park for the first annual Shore to Shore race sponsored by Friends of Lake Wapello.

“The money stays local. The Friends Group can use the money to purchase some things for the park whether it be maintenance or you know, new things that they need – just basically whatever the park needs,” said Tammy Roberts, one of the race’s organizers.

Many kids participated in the youth run and were so excited to show off the medals they were given.

“One mile is not very long. I can run – I could have probably run in the 5K if I wanted to,” said Tristin Hopkins, one of the youth runners.

Roberts was very happy with the turnout this year and can’t wait for next year’s race.
