KIRKSVILLE, MO -- Several young athletes got a chance to showcase their talents Saturday afternoon at Truman State's Gardner Track.

Boys and girls ranging from ages 5 to 14 competed in the 2012 Hershey Track and Field Games.

The competition included two field events and five track events for the kids to compete in.

"It's really fun, especially when you do it with your friends, said Hershey's participant, Da'Shon Hatfield. "It's especially fun when you get blue ribbons."

"I like track and field events," said another participant, Mary Gibson. "I'm really athletic and I like sports."

Saturday's event was the local meet.

In June, winners from this meet will go on to the state meet in Jefferson City.
