OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Despite the rain Sunday afternoon, a group of dedicated volunteers came out for the fourth annual Bucket Brigade Clean Up Day sponsored by Main Street Ottumwa.

Volunteers were given purple trash bags and gloves that would be collected after they finished cleaning their designated area around downtown.

“We get maybe five or six full bags of trash and that goes from the river to Jefferson to 4th Street to Marion. And we really do like to try and get as many people involved so that you can get that sense of pride in the historic downtown of Ottumwa,” said Cindy Woodbury, Executive Director of Main Street Ottumwa.

Woodbury said that they are going to reschedule Bucket Brigade in hopes that with a little more sunshine, they’ll have a better turnout.

“The kids and the folks from Job Corps are here and they're going to be working up around Central Park, Hotel Ottumwa, the parking deck by the Canteen and the Main Street Ottumwa block. So we really are very thankful for them and appreciate their heartiness coming out in the rain,” said Woodbury.
