HEDRICK, IOWA -- Residents of Hedrick are still in the process of recovering after Saturday’s severe storms.
On Saturday evening, a tornado warning was issued for southeastern Mahaska County and Hedrick was right in the path of the storm.
Residents say they could hear strong winds and hail falling on their homes.
Many buildings across the rural Iowa town received minor structural damage.
Fire officials said that they were sounding the alarm around town when the tornado warning was issued to let residents know about the impending danger.
On Monday morning, there were signs that the town is recovering.
“I think the recovery efforts are coming along great. Alliant Energy has been here non-stop since it started.” Said Hedrick Assistant Fire Chief Robert Crawford. “People have been volunteering since Sunday to help clean up. We have got all the streets opened. I think most of the people are back on service electricity wise.”
City officials are still awaiting confirmation from the National Weather Service if this weather event was of straight-line winds or a weak tornado that went though Hedrick.
