Now
It was the coldest night in over a month across the area. Southern Iowa dropped into the mid 20’s this morning while Northeast Missouri was in the upper 20’s. It was a hard freeze for the entire area.

High Pressure that is sitting to our north and has been responsible for the cold nights and gorgeous afternoons will finally start moving east. It will be just north of us this afternoon allowing our winds to be basically calm. Heading into tonight it will start moving east of the area. On the backside of high pressure our winds will turn more out of the east and eventually southeast tomorrow. This will keep temperatures warmer as we head into tonight.
Humidity will continue to be low over the next 12 hours. Values of 20%-40% will be common. So watch out for static electricity and getting shocked!

ONE MORE FROSTY NIGHT
We do have one more night with temperatures around the freezing mark. Lows tonight will drop into the upper 20’s across Southern Iowa and low 30’s across Northeast Missouri.

A FREEZE WARNING is in place for the entire area once again as we head into tonight. So bring in or cover in sensitive plants. If anyone has had damage to plants or crops, please send me an email with where you are located and pictures if you have them. You can email me at bdoogs@ktvo.com.

RAIN CHANCES
After looking at the latest model runs, it appears our rain chances are getting pushed back a little bit. We will start the day on Thursday with plenty of sunshine. Heading into the afternoon we will see an increase in clouds. Some scattered showers and storms will try to move into the area but the air is extremely dry from the last couple days and high pressure off to the east. So Thursday looks to be a pretty dry day, at least through early evening. I am lowering the chances to around 20% for an isolated shower or storm Thursday.
Heading into Thursday night, more moisture will begin working into the area and we can expect more storms to start developing. The steady rain looks to hold off until Friday morning around 7am. After that Friday looks to be pretty wet.

We will have a short break Friday evening before the next round of storms moves into the area as we head into Friday night.
FLOODING POTENTIAL
Rain and storms will stick around with us for the next 5 days. While right now no significant flooding is expected, some minor lowland flooding is possible during the heavier burst of rain over the next few days. It looks like the rain will come more in waves and that should cut back on extensive flooding. Although a solid 1-3 inches of rain looks likely by the end of the weekend.

SEVERE WEATHER POTENTIAL
At the moment, widespread severe weather does not look likely in our area. We will need to keep a close eye on this though as we head into the weekend. A severe weather outbreak is likely across western Missouri heading into Friday and Saturday. I do think we stand the chance for some isolated severe storms as we head into the weekend as well. We will be in the warm sector of the system which will allow for more instability.

NEXT BLOG
In the next blog, I will have more information on just how much rain we can expect as well as an update on any severe chances we stand. Much warmer temperatures as we head into the weekend as well. I will have more on how warm we will get.
