Welcome to my weather blog. The purpose of this is to go a little more in-depth into the world of weather. For those of you that are really into weather, I hope you learn some things or just follow along for more detailed forecasts. Along with that, I will also post weather facts, history, or other interesting weather related events from time to time. I will try and post to this as often as possible. My goal is 4-5 days a week or more if weather warrants. I will try my best to keep up with that with my busy schedule! Feel free to comment or let me know what you think! Enjoy! –Brian

After a rainy start to Thursday clouds are beginning to move out of the area. You can see the edge of clouds in Northeast Missouri continuing to move south of our area. Most of Southern Iowa is now Mostly Sunny. By this evening we should expect partly cloudy skies across most of the area with just some high thin clouds. Heading into the overnight we will see mostly clear skies.

Highs today will top out in upper 50’s to the south to right around 60 in the North. Despite sunshine to end the day, northeast winds will not allow the temperatures to drop off too much. Upper 50’s are average for this time of year. It might feel cold after our recent stretch of warm weather but it is just seasonable.

While no frost advisories are out for our area currently, there are lots of them to the north and northeast where they are expecting wide spread killing frost with temperatures in the low 20’s. No killing frost and 20 degree temperatures for us though, at least this week.

For us in the Heartland, with high pressure to our north and mostly clear skies with light winds overnight we should see temperatures drop into the low to mid 30’s across the area. My current thinking is that we will see enough clear skies, dry air, and light winds to see some scattered light frost across the area.

While low temperatures will be right above freezing in most places, frost will still be possible. The official temperature is taken at around 5 feet off the ground. Because cold air is dense it sinks to the lowest spot. So at ground level it is likely many areas will be a degree or so colder, right at or below freezing, this causing some light frost for your Friday morning. While this frost should NOT be a killing frost, extreme tender vegetation should be covered or brought in just in case.

After a cold start Friday, plenty of sunshine will be in store. Temperatures will only top out around 60 degrees for Friday under northerly wind flow.

In my next post, I will look into when we usually see our last frost/freeze of the season and what this holiday weekend has in store. Also a quick look at what could be below normal temperatures as we head into next week with a few chances for more frost.
