CALLAO, MO -- A structure fire at the Comptons Auction Barn in Callao Sunday night left the business heavily damaged.

Callao fire department responded to a call 11:12 Sunday night.

Once on scene, neighboring departments from Bevier, New Cambria and Macon Rural where called to help with the blazing structure.

“At 12:39 a.m. everything was under control and the fire marshal was notified to respond and it is now currently under investigation. We had seven trucks respond with 47 men from four departments,” said Callao Fire Chief Jason Miller.

The fire was most severe in the south part of the building, although the entire inside structure is considered a complete loss.

The building was full of auction items and one trailer of fireworks outside the building was moved as a precaution.

No one was injured in the fire. Chief Miller says the cause of the fire is unknown and it is not clear how long the investigation will take.
