NEAR BOYNTON, MO. -- The death of a northeast Missouri woman is being treated as a "criminal investigation."

That was the word from Sullivan County Sheriff Roger Smiley late Thursday afternoon regarding the death of Vickie Anderson, 51, of Boynton, Missouri.

Anderson's body was found around 7:15 a.m. March 28, 2012, in an outbuilding behind her house.

Investigators say another person who lives at the residence one mile east of Boynton made the discovery.

Smiley said preliminary results from Thursday's autopsy are "inconclusive" at this point regarding the cause of death.

It could be up to three weeks before toxicology results are available.

The sheriff did say it's clear Anderson did not die from natural causes.

Smiley said the case remains an active criminal investigation, and authorities are still gathering more information.

The sheriff says two men have been interviewed about Anderson's death, but no arrests have been made or are pending at this time.
