Police investigating body found at adult theater

The Ottumwa Police Depatrment is now investigating the death of Laverne McDaniel as a homicide.

"I want to reassure the public there is no killer on the loose as we believe the suspect is currently being held in the Wapello County Jail on other charges,” says Chief Jim Clark

Police have identified the body as Kenneth Laverne McDaniel, 70, of Ottumwa.

Police and fire personnel orginally responded to a call for a person needing medical assistance before discovering McDaniel's body inside the front door of the building.


Ottumwa Police are currently investigating the death of man found at the Adult X Cinema on Main Street in downtown Ottumwa.

A Crime Scene Investigation Unit from the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation was on the scene in downtown Ottumwa Tuesday afternoon.

The state was contacted by the department after the body was reported at the theater late Tuesday morning.

Ottumwa Police believe that the deceased worked at the theater.

"We were contacted late this morning regarding a person going into the Cinema X Theater. A friend of the manager and finding the manager on the floor deceased and at this time we're still investigating the cause of death and processing the scene," said Ottumwa Police Chief Jim Clark.

Clark told KTVO that it was too early in the investigation to determine if the death was the result of natural causes or foul play.
