OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Firefighters from all across southeast Iowa gathered in Ottumwa Saturday for another important training session.

Indian Hills Community College, in conjunction with the Ottumwa Fire Department, offered courses to firefighters at the Indian Hills Ottumwa campus, and at the new fire tower east of the Ottumwa Airport.

One of Ottumwa's newest firefighters, Andy Ewing spoke to KTVO about the training.

"We have had a few fire calls where we have had two house fires in one day, so it is good refresher training. This gives us a little more opportunity to put in some extra practice. It is always good to have as much practice as possible. You have a lot better chance of being calm and relaxed when you enter an actual house fire," said Ewing.

Students and firefighters will continue training Sunday.
