LA PLATA, MO -- Fire crews rush to the scene of blazing house Monday.

The La Plata Community Fire and Kirksville and Atlanta Fire Departments responded to a house fire in the 300 block of West Orrick Street in La Plata around 2 o'clock in the afternoon.

Neighbors said they saw heavy smoke coming out of the chimney and then saw the fire erupt through the roof.

According to Captain Jerry Thomas from La Plata Fire and Rescue, Darrell Green lived in the house. He and his grandson were home when the fire broke out.

They both made it out, but green suffered some slight burns on his hands.

The cause of the blaze is still under investigation, but fire investigators say it has been ruled "accidental."

The home is considered a total loss.
