NEAR LA PLATA, MO. -- A strong thunderstorm whipped through northeast Missouri leaving its mark in the early morning hours of Wednesday.

The Jeff and Chanda Case farm north of La Plata looks like a war zone after strong winds slammed their property.

Their residence sits along the south side of Route E one mile east of Highway 63.

The cases said the storm destroyed many large trees and two vehicles and leveled three out buildings.

One of those buildings was brand new. All that is left of it is the foundation.

Pink insulation and lots of other debris are scattered everywhere, in trees, throughout the yard and across the road through a field.

An old grain bin was also thrown across Route E.

Various farm equipment was blown around the yard. A grinder/mixer was tipped over and a stock trailer was rolled about 200 feet from where it had been before the storm.

Chanda Case told KTVO she, her two children and her mother went to the basement to seek shelter.

Her husband was out of town when it happened.

Case said they had no idea how much damage the winds had done until they came up from the basement.

The Cases' home somehow escaped basically unscathed, except for some minor damage.
