OTTUMWA, IOWA -- If you have Monday, Jan. 16 off school or work, you can donate your extra time to your community.

The United Way of Wapello County is holding their annual day of service on MLK Day. They promote having a "day on" rather than a "day off".

"I've got a group coming here to paint some spots, we've got a group going to Southeast Iowa's Mental Health Center's promise center to do some paining and some upkeep," volunteer coordinator Ali Wilson said. "And thne we still have slots available out at the  boy scout's lodge for just some general clean up and just shape it up a little bit."

Some of the activites are going on over the weekend, for those who don't get Monday off.

To learn more about the service projects, visit the United Way of Wapello County's website at http://www.wapellocouw.org/ and click on 'volunteer'.
