EDINA, MO -- Meet 17-year-old Hannah Strange of Edina. She was raised in her own family farm and is a 4th generation farmer. She works mostly with cattle and pigs, but her passion and main focus are horses.

“My parents really didn’t have horses but my uncle had them and I just fell in love with them. I got started in 4-H when I was 8 and I got a horse of my own. It’s just been fun.”

Hannah is very involved with Knox County 4-H and FFA. She has showed her horse Dexter at fairs all across Missouri and has received many awards in Highpoint. But it requires a lot of hard work and dedication.

“It’s not always fun in winter when it’s cold, but the animal depends on you to take care of them. In the summer, you need to get ready for the shows so you have to do a lot of riding to be a certain level to do well at the shows. The more riding you do, the better you will be.”

Hannah has also had some fun moments with her horse.

“There was a costume class where you and your horse can dress up. One of my favorites was when I dressed up like Cruela DeVil and Dexter was a dalmatian with a white sheet with black spots and dog ears.”

Hannah says agriculture is always going to be a part of her and wants to share its importance.

“I just think people need to be more aware of agriculture and look more at the good things about it. All they hear mostly is the bad they need to know the good stuff.”

Other than taking care of her horse, Hannah has other hobbies like playing basketball and softball. She hopes to go to Mizzou in the next few years and become an Ag journalist.

Congratulations Hannah on being this week’s Ag Kid.
