MACON, MO -- Extra motorists will be travelling on the roadways during the Thanksgiving holiday.
A lot of motorists are going to be travelling not only in Missouri but nationwide. The Missouri State Highway Patrol want to make sure that motorists begin to prepare.
Motorists need to be aware of extra motorists on the roads and they also need to start paying attention to weather forecasts.
Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop B Sergeant Brent Bernhardt said, "We want to encourage motorists to be prepared. They also need to make sure their vehicle is prepared for winter driving. We know in Missouri the weather can deteriorate and so can our roads."
The Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop B will be participating in Operation C.A.R.E.. This is a combined accident reduction effort. All available Troopers will be working to enforce traffic laws and help any motorists who may encounter some type of roadside emergency.
In addition to Operation C.A.R.E., Troop B officers will conduct a "20-Mile Trooper" enforcement operation on U.S. Highway 24, 36 and 61 on Wednesday, November 23rd and Sunday, November 27th. Troopers will be stationed at 20 mile increments along those roadways.
Missouri is currently experiencing a nine percent reduction in traffic fatalities compared to the same period last year. The Patrol is committed to continuing crash and fatality reduction through their education and enforcement efforts.
