KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- A fitting remembrance this Veterans Day is on display in Kirksville.

The Kirksville Area Chamber of Commerce, Kirksville Arts Association, and Kirksville Rotary Club are sponsoring "Remember Our Fallen" at The Kirksville Arts Center in downtown Kirksville.

It honors soldiers from Missouri who made the ultimate sacrifice in Iraq and Afghanistan since 2001. The exhibit travels across the state.

Kirksville Area Chamber of Commerce Tourism Director Debra Boughton said Kirksville should be honored to get this display. “We're a patriotic community and it's just important to remember these soldiers and the sacrifices that they made and their families made,” said Boughton. “It’s great we got it here for Veterans Day.”

Boughton also said that this is the best way to honor, show respect and remember those who gave their lives in the line of duty. “I think this is a colorful and beautiful display but it is also a very somber display,” said Boughton. “One of the most touching things for me is seeing the age. These were young people who gave their lives and it's pretty sad to see.”

Among those honored are five local men who lost their lives in the wars: Sgt. Ryan Campbell of Kirksville, Sgt. Brandon Maggart of Kirksville, Lance Cpl. Rex Page of Kirksville, Pvt. Adam Thomas of La Plata, and Sgt. Travis Burckhardt of Edina.

"Remember Our Fallen" will be in Kirksville through Tuesday. The display is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
