KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- Nov. 5-6 was Youth Firearms Deer Hunting weekend across Missouri. Kids as young as six and as old as 15 set out to shoot and bring home a buck.
One of those lucky kids was Dylan Hemmerling, 10, of Kirksville. He went deer hunting Saturday in an open pasture in Knox County with his big brother and older sister and said it took him only ten minutes to sharp shoot and kill a buck.
"My brother grunted a little bit and some does came out," Hemmerling said.
"He grunted some more and a buck grunted at him and he grunted again and he came up about 50 yards behind me. I guess I had to belly crawl to get to the gun. I shot him. He ran about 75 yards and fell down and died."
Dylan said he's been hunting since he was five years old. He said he gets his shooting skills from his father. He said he used a .223 cartridge to shoot the buck . The youngster said he's ecstatic because it's the second pair of antlers he gets to hang on the wall in the past two years.
