KIRKSVILLE, MO -- After a grueling two-day contest, Truman State University’s Alpha Team took first place at the regional Ranger Challenge competition in Fort Leonard Wood, MO. Twenty-two teams from ten schools competed in this year’s Ranger Challenge. Truman brought an “A” and “B” team of nine men each and a women’s team comprised of five female cadets. Bravo team finished seventh overall, beating four alpha teams from other schools, while Truman’s women placed third in their category.

The Challenge consisted of ten events performed over Friday, October 14 and Saturday, October 15. Events included: the Army Physical Fitness Test, hand grenade assault course, weapons assembly/disassembly, weapons qualification, an obstacle course, one-rope bridge construction, land navigation exam, practical land navigation, CASEVAC (Casualty Evacuation), and a 10K foot march performed in full gear. Women’s teams competed in a knot tying event in lieu of the one-rope bridge. Alpha team won four events and placed in top three for nine of the ten.
