KIRKSVILLE, MO -- We have the results of the food and cash donations received at the Bacon Festival in Kirksville.

The first ever Bacon Fest was held on September 24, 2011 and turned out to be a great success.

The event brought two to four thousand people who enjoyed free bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwiches.

The Food Bank collected just about three thousand pounds of food. The community also generously donated about three thousand five hundred dollars in cash. That cash can provide and distribute 2,255 meals.

Mike DeSantis, The Food Bank Regional Coordinator for central and northeast Missouri, said, "The agency stayed until 2 o'clock and got the food. All the money received went back to Columbia, and is going to be converted to food at a dollar. We'll provide twenty pounds of food and come right back here. So this drive and Bacon Fest was all about Kirksville."

The food drive was not the only event taking place on the Court House lawn. There were health screenings, jump houses for the kids, all kinds of entertainment, plenty of music and a beauty pageant.

The Food Bank would like to thank their sponsors: Kraft Foods, Northeast Regional Medical Center, Kirksville Chamber of Commerce, Century 21 Real Estate and all the volunteers who were involved.

Everyone had a great time and they are hoping they can do it again next year.
