NEAR COLONY, MO. -- A little northeast Missouri boy drowned Thursday afternoon in a pond at his home just outside Colony, Missouri.

Authorities said Jason Patrick Baucom, 5, had been playing in the back yard with his twin brother and several other children, when he somehow made his way into a nearby pond.

By the time he was discovered missing from the group, it was too late.

His lifeless body was found in the water several minutes later.

Officials said the drowning has been ruled "accidental."

Baucom was in the care of his guardians, Elizabeth and Nasey Huber.

The tragedy happened around 3 p.m. Thursday at the Huber home on Knox County Route V about a mile south of Colony.
