Van Buren County Fatal Motorcycle Accident

VAN BUREN COUNTY, IOWA -- A motorcyclist is involved in a fatal accident after losing control of his motorcycle near the Bonaparte Y intersection in Van Buren County. 
 
According to the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office, shortly before 3:30 p.m. Saturday, a motorcyclist lost control of his motorcycle, entered a ditch and struck a metal road sign near the intersection of Highway 1 and County Road W40.
 
The driver of the motorcycle was transported to the hospital by the Farmington Ambulance Service. Van Buren County Sheriff's Office officials say the the driver suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital at 4:42 p.m.
 
The Van Buren Sheriff's Office is not releasing the name of the driver at this time.  
 
In a press release, Chief Deputy Brad Hudson says their initial investigation indicates that the driver was traveling west on Highway 2 when he lost control of the motorcycle and entered the north ditch crashing into a metal road sign.  Hudson says he was not wearing a helmet.
 
The Bonaparte first responders, Bonaparte Fire, Farmington Ambulance Service and Van Buren County Hospital Ambulance were all assisting on scene.

News Release from Van Buren County Sheriff's Office:

On August 6, 2010 at approximately 3:30 PM the Van Buren Co. Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a motorcycle accident at the intersection of Hwy. 1 and Co. Road W40 commonly referred to as the Bonaparte Y.
 
The driver of the motorcycle was transported to the Van Buren Co. Sheriff's Office by the Farmington Ambulance Service. The driver suffered severe blunt head trauma and was pronounced dead at the hospital at 4:42 PM. At this time te driver's name is not being released pending the notification of family.
 
Preliminary investigation indicates that the driver was travelling west on Hwy.2 when he lost control of the motorcycle and entered the north ditch colliding with a metal road sign. He was not wearing a helmet.
 
Assisting at the scene were the Bonaparte first responders, Bonaparte Fire, Farmington EMT's, and Van Buren Co. Hospital Ambulance.
