KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- We checked the Ameren outage map and as of 8 Wednesday morning there are still 138 customers without power in the 63501 zip code area.

Utility crews have been steadily restoring power to thousands of people in and around Kirksville who were left in the dark by heavy thunderstorms Sunday night and Monday morning.

Ameren Missouri reported just before 5 Tuesday afternoon that fewer than 1,200 customers were still without power in Kirksville.  Adair County and an area to the east account for most of the remaining outages.

Ameren had 30 crew members to immediately work on restoring power and brought in 100 more. Crews from the Joplin area as well as Edwardsville, Ill., worked in the Kirksville area.

Macon Electric Cooperative is reporting that its linemen, along with those from other Missouri Electric Cooperatives, continue to restore power.

As of mid-afternoon on Tuesday, M-E-C reported that crews were nearly finished clearing outages south of Macon, along Highway 63, and are also close to restoring outages in Bevier and Callao.

Crews are also working through some challenging conditions north of Bevier.
