Strong storms hit Kirksville

KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- Strong storms hit Kirksville early Monday.

Around 12:30 a.m., a line of storms brought damaging winds, heavy rain, large hail and lightning. Reports are coming in of 70 mph winds at the time of the storm.  Power lines were down and trees were uprooted.  Some power poles were snapped along U.S. 63 on the north edge of Kirksville. Street flooding was reported throughout Kirksville where trees were blocking roadways.  Some trees had fallen on houses.  Power lines are in the process of being repaired.  At one point, an estimated 60 percent of Kirksville was without power. Part of the roof was blown off the Auto Plaza on North Baltimore Street. Also on the north end of Kirksville, a semi filled with fireworks was tipped over.

Damaging winds were also reported in Novinger, Mo., Macon County, Mo., and Centerville, Iowa, which had reports of nickel size hail.
