KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- UPDATED March 25, 2012

Reed will have a bench trial on Monday, March 26 at 8:30 a.m. before Judge Russell Steele in the Adair County Circuit Court.

Additional charges have been filed in connection with this week’s incident involving a shot being fired during an arrest by Kirksville Police. 

Jerod Reed, 18, of Kirksville has been charged with two counts of First Degree Assault of a Law Enforcement Officer, both class A felonies. Reed was also charged with Armed Criminal Action, an unclassified felony and one count of Felony Resisting Arrest. 

According to the Probable Cause statement filed in court, Reed pulled a gun from a pocket of his jeans while he was being taken into custody. During a struggle with KPD detectives, Reed fired the gun with the bullet striking a wall in the room. The serial number had been removed from the gun. 

Reed remains behind bars in the Adair County Jail.

An attempt to serve arrest warrants Tuesday morning by Kirksville Police, ended with one shot being fired. 

KPD officers went to a residence in the 600 block of North Main Street, to serve the warrants on Jerod Reed, 18, of Kirksville. Police say Reed resisted arrest and during the struggle Reed managed to pull a small caliber handgun and fire one shot, before being subdued by officers. 

No one was injured by the gunshot, although Reed was taken to the hospital for treatment unrelated to the arrest. Reed was arrested on the warrants charging him with First Degree Statutory Rape, and misdemeanor counts of Child Molestation and Harassment. Reed is being held on a $150,000 bond. 

Police say additional charges are expected as a result of Tuesday’s incident. The investigation is continuing.
