ST. LOUIS, MO. -- It appears a four-year-old murder case from Adair County may now be a death penalty case.

According to federal court records, the state is asking for the death penalty against Kay Young of Novinger and Catherine Mock of Cassville in the shooting death of young's husband, Melvin "Beau" Griesbauer of Novinger.

Griesbauer was shot to death at his residence in March 2006.

Mock and Young each face federal charges of murder for hire and conspiracy to commit murder for hire.

The two are expected in court September 8 on a motion to suppress evidence collected by investigators.

There's also a pending motion to separate the cases to have Mock and Young tried separately.

Both defendants are currently in federal custody.
